Today's recognized cancer treatments were proven by clinical trials before they became generally available. To be specific the following treatments were clinical trials before they became standard treatment options: effective treatment for breast cancer, life-prolonging treatments after surgery for colorectal cancer and an aggressive type of skin cancer, and prevention strategies are all the direct results of cancer clinical trials. Despite that record of success, few people know about cancer clinical trials and how they may benefit themselves or a loved one. In a recent survey, eighty-five percent of cancer patients were unaware that they could participate in a clinical trial as part of their treatment.
To help raise awareness and dispel some myths, the Georgia Cancer Coalition has developed the Georgia Cancer Clinical Trial web site to help you begin to learn more about cancer clinical trials. The information on this web site will help you and you loved ones decide if a trial is the right treatment option, it will also provide you with links and information that will help educate you and your loved ones about cancer clinical trials.
